Toronto-born and based Lauren Greenwood is an award-winning screenwriter, playwright (a proud member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada), standup comedian and improvisor. With a Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and German, she has been developing her craft for well over a decade.
Lauren’s screen credits include writing for the award-winning Canadian comedy series Out There with Melissa DiMarco. Her first short Red Balloon is currently in post-production. Her psychological thriller feature Subject 27 is currently optioned and in development.
Her debut play and directorial debut, An Atlas, A Necktie & Other Concerns, earned her a spot as finalist for the Cayle Chernin Award for Theatre Production in 2019. The play premiered at the Scripted Toronto Festival on May 18, 2019 in the Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace and played at the Tarragon Theatre Mainspace as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival, July 3 – 14, 2019. It won Best of Fringe North (519) and subsequently had a three show run in Orangeville, Ontario. Her next play, Bygone, will premiere at the 2021 Toronto Fringe Festival.
Lauren is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory program and produces and hosts Send Noobs, a standup comedy show for new comedians with a focus on women, LGBTQ+ and BIPOC performers.
