Lauren Greenwood is an award-winning screenwriter and playwright.
She won the 2019 Telefilm Canada New Voices Award with her feature screenplay SUBJECT 27. Under its previous title, the script was also shortlisted for the 2019 National Screen Institute Features First program. Her first made-for-TV thriller is currently in post-production with Neshama Entertainment / MarVista Entertainment.
Her short film, RED BALLOON, Avi Federgreen’s 2020 directorial debut starring Gord Rand, Natalie Brown and Patrick McKenna, has won four awards including Best Screenplay (Short Film) at the San Diego International Kids Film Festival. The film was an official selection at the Los Angeles Lift-Off Film Festival; Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival; Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival; Chicago Reel Shorts Festival; Cinema on the Bayou; Reel Canadian Film Festival; San Diego International Kids Film Festival; WorldFest-Houston; Oakville Festivals of Film & Art; Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival and Cabbagetown Film Festival.
Her first play and directorial debut, AN ATLAS, A NECKTIE & OTHER CONCERNS, ran at the juried Scripted Toronto Festival and the Toronto Fringe Festival in 2019. The play won Best of Fringe North (519), and was a finalist for the Cayle Chernin Award. After receiving a generous grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, the short film adaptation called & OTHER CONCERNS, starring the original cast and directed by Sabina Lambert, is currently in post-production.
Lauren writes for BlueAnt Media’s Animalogic, a YouTube channel with almost 2 million subscribers that creates entertaining and highly educational videos about animals, plants, birds and extinct fauna. Videos she’s written on the channel have amassed more than 20 million views.
A graduate of the Second City Conservatory program, Lauren co-created, co-wrote and performed in the sketch comedy revue CARPE INTO MY DMs, which won Best of Fringe at the Toronto Fringe Festival 2019. She also produced and hosted Send Noobs, a bimonthly standup comedy show for new comedians with a focus on women, LGBTQ+ and BIPOC performers from 2017 – 2020.
Lauren is a graduate of the prestigious Master of Fine Arts Screenwriting Program at York University. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and German and is a proud member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada. Lauren is represented by Meaghan Denomme at Gary Goddard Agency.
